Fit to be Tied

I've been a soccer mom, football mom, basketball mom, and now I'm a wrestling mom.  Didn't see that one coming!

The middle school offered intramural wrestling this winter and we encouraged P to give it a try.  Our thoughts were that it would keep him active during the winter when he's prone to veg out and play video games non-stop.  Surprise, surprise...he actually enjoyed it and decided to try out for the wrestling team.  And he made it!

At the parent meeting last week, we were told that the boys needed to wear a button down shirt and tie on meet days.  The shirt was taken care of with the Sketchbook but a tie??  We don't do ties around here.  (Signature Style for my entire family...Casual)

Luckily, there are a number of free patterns/tutorials out there!

Pattern:  "Little Boy's Tie" from the Purl Bee
Fabric:  Navy Blue Sateen from Joann Fabric's, striped scrap fabric for lining
Mods:  added a strip of ribbon to tuck the tail in on the underside

P and I also had to learn how to tie a tie.  Youtube provided the step by step instructions and now we know how to tie a four in hand knot.  At least I do, P needs to practice a little more.;)

Here are the other tie tutorials/patterns I found while searching:

Boy's Easy Bias Tie from Shannon at Little Kids Grow (Amanda at Kitschy Coo and the ladies at Once Upon a Sewing Machine brought this one to my attention)

Ottobre Design Tie To find the tie pattern/instructions you have to click back quite a few pages.  But that gives you a chance to explore their other free downloads.:)

Since the wrestling meets are twice a week, I'm going to need sew another button down shirt for P.  And perhaps a new tie.;)
