Here it is, October 7 and I still haven't blogged about what I sewed during Selfish Sewing Week. Time to rectify that.
Two out of my 3 projects have been worn multiple times. But my last project (the long sleeve knit shirt) hasn't been worn once. After unseasonably cool September temperatures, I finished the shirt and then we start having temps in the mid to upper 80s. Go figure! Pics of the shirt will have to wait until we resume having appropriate fall weather.;)
Here we go...
pattern: Grainline Studio Maritime Shorts
size: 10
fabric: distressed twill
mods: added 3 inches to the inseam, tapered the leg opening, moved rear pockets closer to the center back seam
I apologize for the lack of pictures. With the kids in school, I've had to use the timer on my camera. And let's just say, I haven't quite mastered how to pose my body in a flattering way. K usually compensates for my awkward poses by changing the angle that the picture is taken. The tripod doesn't!
Moving on...
pattern: Ottobre Design 05/09 #19 "soft shell jacket"
size: 40
fabric: double sided fleece
I love this jacket. It's warm and has a nice shape to it. Perfect for cool mornings at the bus stop or those evening soccer/football practices. And if I ever get my butt out from in front of the computer/sewing machine, it'll be great for running jogging.
The collar/zipper instructions are a bit vague. I was also in a rush to finish this on the last day of Selfish Sewing Week so the collar isn't finished perfectly. I should have taken a peek at a fleece jacket that I'm retiring (I bought it at Target when I was pregnant with K). But I didn't and there's no way I'm unpicking the collar/zipper and trying again. I'm liable to create a bigger problem!
Final thoughts on Selfish Sewing Week...
I'm glad I participated! That jacket has been on my list for at least 2 years but somehow--perhaps all that kids' clothes sewing?--it kept being pushed to the bottom of my list.
And in case you were hoping to participate but didn't get a chance, Rachael and Jill will be doing another Selfish Sewing Week in about 6 months. Count me in!
