Here in the Tidewater area, winters are typically fairly mild. We'll have chilly weather but also days that are warm enough to go outside with out a jacket. By the way, my definition of chilly is high temperatures in the low 50's. Anything below that is frigid! Go ahead and laugh, all of you that live in colder climes.:)
This winter has been especially mild. The older kids have not worn a winter coat. They're hardier stock than me and will wait 10 minutes at the bus stop in a hoodie. Not the case this morning!

Today's high is supposed to be 32F. Brrrr!
K's winter coat is the "Donny" Duffle that I made last year. I think she's grown about 4 inches since last winter, 5'6" tall these days, so the sleeves were way too short. But I fixed that with some black ribbing...
I didn't take pictures of the process but all I did was cut 2 cuffs out, sew them together, finish the raw edge, and hand stitch them to the inside of the sleeves. I made them plenty long so she can pull them over her hands if she wants.
A Quick and Easy fix to get another winter's wear out of the coat!
