Lisette Traveler Dress

I finally got around to sewing up my Lisette Traveler dress that I cut out oh, 5-6 months ago.  I don't have the best of pictures but I couldn't wait to share!

Modeled by my mom's dress form, my waist is in no way that small FYI

This dress was a bargain as the total cost of supplies was only $6.47.

The breakdown:

  • 2 yards of purple stretch cotton poplin from Fabric Mart @ 1.99/yard
  • buttons from the clearance aisle at Jo-ann Fabrics @ 50 cents a card  (3)
  • Simplicity 2246 on sale for 99 cents
  • thread and interfacing were from my stash

I sewed a size 10 but didn't do the full 5/8" seam on the sides.  I also don't have lower pockets or a self fabric belt because I had run out of fabric.  I'm really pleased with this dress and it came together quickly.  The only place I ran into a bit of trouble was easing the sleeves in.  That might have been a cutting error though.  mental note:  don't wait so long to sew a pattern you've cut out  I'm hoping to get properly modeled pictures this weekend!

I'm also working on Halloween costumes.  P is going to be a Chief and MG a Skeleton.  K will be a Southern Belle but there'll be no sewing as she's borrowing a costume my mom had.  BK made it really easy...she's going to be a flamingo.  I still had all the parts to MG's costume from 2 years ago that my mom made.  It needed a few alterations (skirt and belt let out, feathers and trim replaced) to be wearable and Grandma has already taken of that.  Thank you, Mom!
